Odds are, you want everyone to enjoy your wedding and that includes your Wedding Party. In order to get the best photos and the most enjoyable day, your Wedding Party needs to be working together, comfortable with eachother and enjoying themselves. The best way to accomplish this is to start the wedding fun early and have a "Wedding Party party"!
One of my fondest Wedding Planning memories from my own wedding, was our Wedding Party Pool Party. We had 14 people in our Wedding Party and they lived all over Southern Ontario. Many didn't know eachother and we wanted them to have fun on our Wedding day too. So my bridesmaid Jeannine, let us use her pool and bbq and we had a party. People got along so well, they extended the day and went to dinner afterwards.
When the wedding day came along, they were old friends, exactly the atmosphere we wanted to create!
The idea is to get everyone together, where they have to interact in a place free of distractions. Some ideas for Wedding Party Parties include: a beach BBQ, a picnic, rock climbing, paint ball, river rafting, to name a few. If you can introduce group activities or adventures, even better. You could have corporate picnic style-games like wheel-barrow and sack races or arrange a treasure hunt.
For those with more resources, there are companies like Canadian Outback Adventures & Events, that will set up a Survivor-style day of games or an Iron Chef BBQ challenge in Vancouver, Calgary & Toronto.
It could be as simple as a day at the beach, a bbq by the pool or as ornate as an organized outdoor adventure, but a "Wedding Party Party" should be apart of your Wedding Planning.
